{"id":65,"date":"2011-03-27T20:04:13","date_gmt":"2011-03-27T20:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emtunc.org\/blog\/?p=65"},"modified":"2013-06-15T13:25:52","modified_gmt":"2013-06-15T12:25:52","slug":"using-adsiedit-to-increase-user-mailbox-size-beyond-2gb-on-exchange-server-2003","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emtunc.org\/blog\/03\/2011\/using-adsiedit-to-increase-user-mailbox-size-beyond-2gb-on-exchange-server-2003\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Adsiedit to Increase User Mailbox Size Beyond 2GB on Exchange Server 2003"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you use Exchange 2003 (I&#8217;m not sure if the same applies to later versions), you may have noticed that you cannot set a user&#8217;s mailbox size to anything greater than 2097151KB (2GB).<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that this limit is only GUI imposed (soft limit) and not a hard value fixed on the exchange server software it self (hard limit).<\/p>\n<p>Increasing a user&#8217;s mailbox is really easy and safe &#8211; however, I don&#8217;t recommend that you configure the size to some unreasonable or extreme limit.<br \/>\nAs always, a full backup of the mail store is recommended before changing any settings on the Exchange.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>How-To<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to Start &#8211;&gt; <strong>Run<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Type <strong>adsiedit.msc<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Go to the container which contains your users<\/li>\n<li>Right click the user you want to increase the mailbox size for and select <em>Properties<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Edit the values <strong>mDBStorageQuota<\/strong>, <strong>mDBOverQuotaLimit<\/strong>, <strong>mDBOverHardQuotaLimit<\/strong> and <strong>mDBUseDefaults<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>mDBStorageQuota<\/strong> is the value (in KB) in which you want to issue a warning.<br \/>\n<strong>mDBOverQuotaLimit<\/strong> is the value (in KB) in which you want to prohibit sending of mail.<br \/>\n<strong>mDBOverHardQuotaLimit<\/strong> is the value (in KB) in which you want to prohibit sending and receiving of mail.<br \/>\n<strong>mDBUseDefaults<\/strong> (boolean) decides whether the default settings should be used or not. You should set this to False if you have configured the above values and want to use them.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it!
